In order for DNS requests to destined for a specific domain to be resolved correctly, it is necessary to forward these to a specific DNS server.  

This article describes how DNS forwarding is configured on a LANCOM R&S®Unified Firewall.


Requirements:

  • LANCOM R&S® Unified Firewall mit  with LCOS FX ab as of Version 10.4
  • Web -Browser zur Konfiguration der browser to configure the Unified Firewall.

1) Setting up DNS forwarding on the Unified Firewall: 

1.1) Verbinden Sie sich per Web-Browser mit der Unified Firewall und wechseln in das Menü Netzwerk → DNS → Allgemeine EinstellungenConnect to the Unifed Firewall via the web browser and go to the menu Network → DNS → General Settings.

1.2 Passen Sie bei DNS-Server die folgenden Parameter an und klicken auf das "Plus-Zeichen", um diese zu übernehmen:) For DNS Servers modify the following parameters and click on the "Plus" symbol to apply the settings:

  • Zone: Enter the domain to be resolved. Please note, that the domain always has to be preceded by the wildcard * with a . (Zone: Tragen Sie die Domäne ein, welche aufgelöst werden soll. Dabei muss immer die Wildcard * mit einem . vorangestellt werden (also *.). 
  • Zugewiesene ServerAssigned Servers:
    • 1. DNS -Server: Tragen Sie die IP-Adresse des DNS-Servers ein, an den die DNS-Anfragen für die hinterlegte Domäne weitergeleitet werden sollen. server: Enter the IP address of the DNS server the DNS requests for the domain should be forwarded to.  
    • 2. DNS -Server: Tragen Sie optional die IP-Adresse eines zweiten DNS-Servers einserver: Optionally you can enter the IP address of a second DNS server.
Hinweis

Die Domäne The domain itself (company) selber kann durch eine solche Weiterleitung nicht aufgelöst werden. Damit dies trotzdem funktioniert, muss eine DNS-Weiterleitung auf Basis der Toplevel-Domäne erstellt werden (siehe Schritt 2.cannot be resolved via such a forwarding entry. To achieve this, a DNS forwarding with the toplevel domain has to be set up (see step 2).

Hinweis

When using multiple domains with the same toplevel domain no distinction between the domains is possible to use different DNS servers!
