IAPP (Inter Access Point Protocol) is used for exchanging information between access points. In the process information regarding logged in WiFi devices is transmitted. If a WiFi device switches to a new access point, this access point informs the old one, which removes the WiFi device from its station table. In doing so all login information is retained and the roaming takes place nearly virtually seamlessly ("soft roaming"). Whereas when a "hard roaming" takes place, the WiFi device has to authenticate itself anew with the new access point.

Info

When a WLAN Controller is used in conjunction with a WLC Tunnel, the roaming information is transmitted via the CAPWAP-DATA Tunnel.

Hinweis

IAPP uses the Multicast group 224.0.1.76 to communicate. Therefore communication withis within this group must be ensured in the IGMPv3 settings on the switches.
