Description:
This document describes how you return a LANCOM R&S® Unified Firewall to its factory default settings.

Requirements:
  • LANCOM R&S® Unified Firewall
  • USB flash drive with max. 16GB storage capacity (with the Unified Firewall models UF-50, UF-100, UF-200, UF-300, UF-500 and UF-900/910 USB 3.0 flash drives and capacities larger than 16 GB can cause problems)
  • USB installer for creating a bootable USB flash drive (available in the download area in the license portal)
    • The USB installer in version 11 is necessary so that a backup configuration created with LCOS FX 11.1 can be integrated in the boot medium.

1.4) Start the USB installer software (rsuf_stick_10_2.exe) with administrator rights.
1.5) Select the desired language.
Select the language
1.6) Click Next to start the wizard.

1.7) Accept the license agreement and click Next.
Accept the license agreement
1.8) Select the path to the downloaded ISO image file.
Select the ISO image
1.9) Select the USB mass storage device where the image is to be installed.

1.10) Any data on the USB storage device will be irretrievably deleted during this process!
Confirm the process by activating the option.

1.11) Select Automatic installation with backup and Use default backup and click Next.

The option Normal installation should not be used. Otherwise it is necessary to make manual adjustments via the serial configuration interface.

1.15) Once the process is completed successfully, the wizard reports “Configuration successfully completed”.
1.16) Leave the option Remove USB flash drive safely enabled and click Close.
Boot medium successfully created
1.17) Remove the USB flash drive from your PC.

Make sure that the bootable USB flash drive is never connected to a computer which is booting up. Otherwise, the flash drive triggers an automatic installation of the LANCOM R&S ® Unified Firewall software and reformats the hard disks.

2) Resetting the Unified Firewall to factory settings:
Please note that the license for your Unified Firewall will be deleted after returning the device to its factory settings. The device is then returned to its 30-day trial period!
In order to re-license the device after resetting it, you must import the license file that you received when you first registered your device.
2.1) Turn the Unified Firewall off.
2.2) Plug the bootable USB flash drive created in step 1 into any USB port of the device.
2.3) Turn the Unified Firewall on to start the automatic installation of the new image.

Once the installation process has successfully completed, the device shuts off automatically.

2.4) Once the R&S Unified Firewall has switched itself off, you can remove the USB stick.

We recommend that you format the USB flash drive after successfully installing the current version of the Unified Firewall software. This prevents you from unintentionally installing the image on other devices. This would cause hard drives to be formatted and data lost.

2.5) Continue with Chapter 2, “Getting Started” of the Unified Firewalls User Manual.
