Description:

Active Power Control (APC) is a software solution that provides LMC administrators with tools to efficiently manage and optimise the energy consumption of LANCOM network components - directly from the LANCOM Management Cloud.

APC has two objectives:

Firstly, it provides a central platform for administrators to configure the power-saving functions of the devices as required.
Secondly, it provides detailed insights into energy consumption, broken down by projects, locations and device types, to facilitate informed decisions about the energy management of the network.

Requirements:

Access to the LMC with your own project (subject to a fee)

Procedure:

1. You can activate Active Power Control project-wide in the menu Project settings → Active Power Control.

2. Decide whether you would like to additionally activate LANCOM Sustainability Mode for LCOS LX access points:

This mode intelligently reduces the number of access point antennas used in both the transmitting and receiving directions during periods of low client traffic. This reduces power consumption without compromising performance, ensuring that the connection to the access point is maintained at all times and that the WLAN range is retained. All configured SSIDs continue to be broadcast.
Supported devices:

All LANCOM LCOS LX access points from firmware version 6.20 REL. The LANCOM LW-500 is not supported.

Newly created projects have LANCOM Sustainability Mode activated by default. To deactivate the energy-saving function, the corresponding option can be deselected.
In existing LMC projects you have to manually activate LANCOM Sustainability Mode.

For LCOS LX access points, the LANCOM Sustainability Mode can also be activated or deactivated via SSH and the console:

To do this, set the values Yes (1) or No (0) in the path ‘Setup/WLAN/Power-Saving-Mode’.

3. Click Save when you have completed all the settings.

4. The changes made must now be rolled out in the devices menu.

Energy consumption report (monthly reporting):

The APC provides a comprehensive overview of energy consumption and enables analyses at different levels (e.g. breakdown by project, location and device type). Monthly and yearly views of energy consumption make it easier to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

Energy data is stored for 18 months, even if a location or device is deleted. This ensures the accuracy of reports at the project level.

Supported devices:

All network devices that have not yet reached EOL status are supported. Please refer to our tech paper for more information.

Different measurement methods:

If a ‘power meter’ is available on the device, the respective power consumption is measured exactly. Otherwise, an estimated value based on the power consumption in idle mode is used.

Reporting is carried out automatically in the background. No further activation is necessary for this.
