Description:
This article describes, how static IP parameters can be assigned to a switch with LCOS SX 4.xx (GS-24xx, GS-3xxx and XS-3xxx) via the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC).
Manual assignment of static IP parameters via the Detail configuration should only be done in exceptional cases (for example, in a very small scenario with very few devices). Since the gateway and a DNS server must also be entered manually in addition to the IP address, manual configuration can quickly become very extensive.
Instead, it is recommended to use an Add-in for assigning static IP parameters.
LANCOM Systems provides this Add-in as well as a description of the variables in the following document:
Configure a static IPv4 address on a LANCOM GS-3xxx series switch
Requirements:
- LCOS SX as of version 4.00 (download latest version)
- Access to the LMC including your own project
- Any web browser for accessing the LMC
Procedure:
1) Allow static IP configuration for access points and switches:
In the LMC, go to the menu item Project specifications → Basic and make sure, that the option Keep static IP configuration for access points and switches is active.
2) Configuring the static IP parameters via the “Detail configuration” of the switch:
2.1) Connect to the LMC and go to the menu Devices.
2.2) Click on the Name of the switch to gain access to the extended settings.
2.3) Open the Detail configuration of the switch and go to the menu Configuration → Routing → Interfaces.
2.4) Click on the entry for the VLAN 1.
2.5) Modify the following parameters and click Save entry:
- IPv4 DHCP: Deactivate this option, so that static IP parameters can be entered.
- IP address: Enter the an IPv4 address (in this example 192.168.1.252).
- Prefix length: Enter the subnetmask of the network in CIDR notation (Classless Inter Domain Routing). The prefix 24 is the equivalent to the subnetmask 255.255.255.0.
2.6) Go to the menu Configuration → Routing → Routes.
2.7) Click on the New entry button.
2.8) Modify the following parameters and click Save entry:
- IP address: Enter the IP address 0.0.0.0. This is required to create a default route.
- IP mask: Enter the IP mask 0. This is required to create a default route.
- IP gateway: Enter the IP address of the gateway in the local network (in this example 192.168.1.254).
2.9) Go to the menu System → DNS and modify the following parameters:
- DNS Server: In the dropdown menu select the option DNS configuration is manually set.
- DNS IPv4 address or vlan value: Enter the IPv4 address of a DNS server (in this example 192.168.1.254).
2.10) Finally, click on Save and roll out to implement the configuration changes.
