Description:

This article describes, how static IP parameters can be assigned to an access point with LCOS LX via the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC).

Manual assignment of static IP parameters via the Detail configuration should only be done in exceptional cases (for example, in a very small scenario with very few devices). Since the gateway and a DNS server must also be entered manually in addition to the IP address, manual configuration can quickly become very extensive.

Instead, it is recommended to use an Add-in for assigning static IP parameters.

LANCOM Systems provides this Add-in as well as a description of the variables in the following document:

Configure a static IP address on an access point with LCOS LX

Requirements:

  • LCOS LX as of version 5.36 (download latest version)
  • Access to the LMC including your own project
  • Any web browser for accessing the LMC

Procedure:

1) Allow static IP configuration for access points and switches:

In the LMC, go to the menu item Project specifications → Basic and make sure, that the option Keep static IP configuration for access points and switches is active.

Allow to keep static IP parameters for access points and switches in the Project specifications in the LMC

2) Configuring the static IP parameters via the “Detail configuration” of the switch:

2.1) Connect to the LMC and go to the menu Devices.

Open the menu Devices in the LMC

2.2) Click on the Name of the access point to gain access to the extended settings.

Open the extended settings of the access point

2.3) Open the Detail configuration of the access point and go to the menu IP configuration → Configuration → LAN-Interfaces.

Open the menu LAN-Interfaces in the Detail configuration of the access point

2.4) Click on the network INTRANET to gain access to the extended settings of the LAN-Interfaces.

Edit the network INTRANET in the LAN-Interfaces

2.5) Modify the following parameters and click Save entry:

  • IPv4 Address Source: Select the option static in the dropdown menu.
  • Static IPv4 Address: Enter an IPv4 address in CIDR notation (Classless Inter Domain Routing). In this example, the address 192.168.1.222/32 is used.

Enter an IPv4 address for the access point

2.6) Go to the menu IP configuration → Configuration → Static Parameters.

Open the menu Static Parameters in the Detail configuration of the access point

2.7) Click on the network INTRANET to gain access to the extended settings of the Static Parameters.

Edit the network INTRANET in the Static Parameters

2.8) Modify the following parameters and click Save entry:

  • IPv4-Gateway: Enter the IPv4 address of the gateway (in this example 192.168.1.254).
  • Primary IPv4 DNS Server: Enter the IPv4 address of a DNS server (in this example 192.168.1.254).

Enter the IPv4 address of the gateway and a DNS server

3) Rolling out the configuraton to the access point:

3.1) Go to the menu Devices in the LMC.

Open the menu Devices in the LMC

3.2) Click Outdated under Configuration for the affected access point.

Initiate the configuration rollout to the access point

3.3) Finally, click on Roll out, so that the changed configuration is implemented.

Acknowledge the roll out process
