Description:

Some scenarios require, that the mobile modem used for a backup connection is not logged in the mobile network permanently (e.g. in roaming scenarios). This can be implemented by using the mobile connection as a Cold-Standby. The mobile modem logs into the mobile network only in the backup case.

This article describes how to set up a Cold-Standby for a mobile connection.

A Cold-Standby can only be used  in combination with a backup connection. A Cold-Standby cannot be used with Administrative Distances as in this case the mobile modem is logged in the mobile network permanently.

Requirements:

Procedure:

1) Setting up a mobile connection as backup:

Set up a mobile connection as backup. The procedure is described in the following Knowledge Base article:

Backing up an Internet connection with mobile communication (4G/5G)

2) Activating Cold-Standby for the mobile connection:

2.1) Open the router configuration in LANconfig and go to the menu Interfaces → WAN → Mobile profiles.

2.4) This concludes the configuration of the Cold-Standby. Write the configuration back to the router.

As of LCOS 10.80 RU1 the state in the CLI path Status/Modem-Mobile/ State is shown as Ready(Cold-Standby) when Cold Standby is active (was Deactivated in LCOS 10.80 Rel).

The State will also be shown in LANmonitor as of version 10.80 RU1.
