Description:

On a Unified Firewall only a limited amount of prefabricated DynDNS services are available. If the prefered service is not among them, it can still be used by entering a user defined address.

This article describes how to set up a user defined DynDNS service on a Unified Firewall.

Requirements:

  • LANCOM R&S®Unified Firewall with LCOS FX as of version 10.10 Rel
  • Configured and functional local network as well as an Internet connection on the Unified Firewall
  • Registered and functional DynDNS account
  • Web browser for configuring the Unified Firewall

    The following browsers are supported:
    • Google Chrome
    • Chromium
    • Mozilla Firefox

Procedure:

1) Connect to the Unified Firewall, go to the menu Network → DynDNS Accounts and click on the "Plus" symbol to create a new DynDNS account.

2) Modify the following parameters and click Create:

  • Internet Connection: In the dropdown menu select the Internet connection (in this example WAN).
  • Server Type: In the dropdown menu select the option dyndns.org.
  • Hostname: Enter the DynDNS address you chose during the registration process with the DynDNS service (in tis example firewall.ddns.net)
  • Username: Enter the username you chose during the registration process with the DynDNS service. It is used for authentication with the DynDNS service.
  • Password: Enter the password you chose during the registration process with the DynDNS service. It is used for authentication with the DynDNS service.
  • Custom Server Adress: Enter the Server address of the DynDNS service (in this example noip.com). In doing so, this address is used instead of the service selected under Server Type.

3) This concludes the configuration steps to set up a user defined DynDNS service. Afterwards the Unified Firewall will contact the DynDNS service and announce the IP address of the Internet connection.
