Explanation: "BFWA" refers to the 5.725 MHz – 5.850 MHz frequency band for which a transmission power of up to 4 Watts (36 dBm) is permitted. LANCOM access points already support BFWA according to UK regulations (country setting = UK). This feature is in preparation for the other European countries (ETSI) and will be available as a free software update in a future version of LCOS. The use of this frequency band is subject to a notification requirement by the operator (e.g. in Germany, according to section 6 of the German Telecommunications Act, TKG). In Germany, the Federal Network Agency does not require a formal application, so there are no administrative fees for the operator. What advantages does this frequency band offer? Compared with sub-band 2, where transmission power is legally restricted to just 1 watt, this frequency band is approved for a transmission power of up to 4 watts. The received signal strength at any given point is inversely proportional to the square of the range. Theoretically, quadrupling the transmission power to 4 watts results in twice the range. |
